Okay, for those of you who don’t know our fur babies, we have Shadow, a 5 year old White Korean Jindo; Zero, an 8 year old shih tzu; and Ella, a 2 year old pit bull mix. Within the last year or so, Ella and Shadow have started ‘bickering’ to put it lightly, we have to keep them separated now. We’ve been considering options and trying to find a new forever home for Ella for several months now, and finally came to an option we can live with. We adopted Ella out to Robert(My little brother) and his girlfriend, Stephanie. Ella absolutely adores him, and Robert had been asking if he could take her for a long time. With Ella wanting to beat up Shadow all the time, we figured Ella would have a much happier and normal life with Robert, where she can be the only dog in the house.
We’re sad to have her leave our home, but happy that she won’t have to spend half the day cooped up in a kennel any more.
One of the reasons we adopted Ella in the first place, was that Shadow needed a bigger playmate than Zero. This was wonderful up until Ella developed her adult instincts and decided she wasn’t happy with her place in the pack, and expressed this dissatisfaction by constantly attacking Shadow.
Shadow and Zero do enjoy playing together, however with Zero being such a tiny dog, Shadow has to tone down her play with him, and even then she sometimes accidentally gets too rough, and Zero gets mad and doesn’t want to play any more.
So, we set out to find a young male dog, of medium to large breed, destined to be Shadow’s forever playmate. (Male because males and females tend not to struggle for pack rank [won't fight with Shadow], and neutered males don’t generally struggle with other neutered males for pack rank [won't fight with Zero]). We’ve been keeping our eye out on Craigslist and the SPCA / Rabies Control feeds for larger young male dogs with good temperament in need of rescue.
The search is over, and I am proud to introduce our new family member, and Shadow’s new BEST FRIEND EVER (seriously, they love each other):
Maxwell Faraday Lapoint
He is a Husky mix. We’re not 100% positive what he’s mixed with, but it’s probable that he is mixed with Alaskan Malamute or Great Pyrenees.
He is a year and a half old, and weighs nearly 150lbs. He’s BIG and fluffy and squishy and slobbery and wants to cuddle with everyone, he’s such a sweet dog
That’s right, I said 150lbs. And he still has a year and a half to grow. Not so much a dog, as a small bear.
Background on his name:
Faraday: After
Michael Faraday, founder of the Classical Field Theory of physics
Two scientists whom we respect and admire for their ground-shattering contributions to modern wireless communication (despite having lived in the 1800s and 1700s, respectively).
Anyway, we’re happy to be heading towards a balanced home again. The Ella situation was not only stressful for us, but for Ella, Shadow, and Zero too, and we’re glad that Ella will not have to feel left out any more.
And I can’t end a post about our puppies without including some super cute pictures of them!
Shadow
Zero
Love,
Dan & Amber
